What will a prenup cost you?

Five questions. The answer is a range, not a quote, because the honest answer is a range. Nothing you enter leaves your browser or gets stored.

1. Where will you be married, or where do you live now?

State only changes the answer where a published rule says it does. We do not invent per-state pricing.

2. Does either of you own a business, a stake in one, or a trust?

Includes a partnership share, an LLC, or company stock you expect to grow.

3. Is either of you giving up spousal support?

Also called alimony or maintenance. Waiving it is the single most scrutinised thing an agreement can do.

4. Do you two already agree on the main points?
5. How soon is the wedding?

Timing is not a fee, but signing under time pressure is one of the ways agreements get thrown out.

This estimator needs JavaScript. Without it, the short version is: $599 for an online prenup with no attorneys, $2,197 with an attorney for each of you, and $1,000 to $10,000 for the traditional two-lawyer route.

Your range appears here once you answer. Most people land on one of three numbers, and the gap between them is mostly about how complicated the money is.

Where these numbers come from

  • $599 and $2,197: HelloPrenup's published pricing, read 16 July 2026. The $2,197 is the $599 base plus $799 per partner for an attorney each.
  • $1,000 to $10,000: LegalZoom's published range for the traditional route, last updated by them in July 2024. Treat it as a wide, ageing estimate rather than a price.
  • The state rules: HelloPrenup states its attorney package is required in South Carolina and West Virginia, and to enforce a spousal-support waiver in Alabama, California, New York and Washington. That is their published policy, which is a real thing you would encounter at checkout. It is not a statement of your state's statute, and we have not yet verified each one at the source.
  • We deliberately do not use the "$8,000 average" that circulates in this niche. We could not find a single source for it. Why that matters.
